The Colorado State Capitol

Starting our list for the best Denver attraction is the Colorado State Capitol. This building was home to the Colorado General Assembly and also acted as the governor’s office. It was built back in the 1890s, and it was built to resemble the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. It was constructed using white granite and topped with a golden dome as a commemoration of the Colorado Gold Rush.

The best thing about visiting the Colorado State Capitol is that; the building itself is at exactly one mile above sea level.

The building contains three different markers on its steps. The one found on the 13th step is the most recent and accurate. Taking a photo while in the Colorado State Capitol building shows you visited Mile High City properly. When you get into the building, you will see beautiful stained glass windows that depict attractive scenes from the history of Colorado. Do not forget to take the steep 99 steps to reach Mr. Brown’s Attic, where you will get an opportunity to enjoy a 360-degree view of downtown and the Rocky Mountains.

Do not worry about the cost because the Colorado State Capitol is free to visit, and they also offer free tours. Visiting hours run from 10 am to 3 pm from Monday to Friday. You are advised to arrive at least 20 minutes early.
